Converting Bikes Direct Fatbikes To Singletrack eMachines

Karl Gesslein / February 21, 2015 Several months ago I started looking seriously at creating ‘the ultimate fatbike’. I knew it had to be 2 Wheel Drive and I knew it had to be full suspension, but I had no idea where to start. Once I saw the Quigley Full suspension fatbike from Bikes Direct I fell in love. Karl Gesslein / September 9, 2015 When planning and designing an ebike build one of the first questions that a builder needs to ask themselves is how much power do they really need? A perfect build would have enough power to get up the biggest hill in your commute at the speed you want to go uphill at and would also have the top speed that you want to ride at available when you want it on the flats. Building a bike with more power than you need means you have to spend more and carry around has extra weight. Building an...
Direct Drive, Geared Hub or Mid Drive?

One of the hardest questions most builders have to ask themselves is which direction should their builds go in. Fat bikes are particularly difficult as a 26″ rim with a 4″ fat tire ends up being a larger Diameter than a 29er tire. This larger diameter means higher top speeds and lower torque no matter what motor/gearing combo you use. The problem with fat bikes is that they are a terrible design for high speeds. Running low pressure tires and tubes creates a lot of friction at high speeds that can greatly shorten your tube’s life. Larger wheels = less...

Most people’s experiences with e-bikes goes something like this. They discover Endless-Sphere and spend a bunch of time reading articles, then they look at people out there selling ebike kits and they decide to buy the cheapest kit they can get. They have done enough...
